Petrol Price in Pakistan Increased by Rs5.36, Diesel by Rs11.37

The federal government increased the price of petrol by Rs 5.36 per litre and high-speed diesel (HSD) by Rs 11.37 per litre. These new prices will be in effect for the next 15 days.

According to the Finance Division, the new prices were suggested by OGRA and other government departments.

  • New petrol price: Rs272.15 per litre

  • New HSD price: Rs284.35 per litre

There is no change in the prices of kerosene oil and light diesel oil.

Why This Matters

Petrol is mostly used in motorcycles, rickshaws, and cars, so this increase will directly affect middle- and lower-income families.

Diesel is used in buses, trucks, tractors, and trains, so its price affects the cost of food and daily goods. Transport companies have already started raising fares.

Extra Charges and Taxes

Even though the government is not charging general sales tax (GST), it is still collecting about Rs 98 per litre on both petrol and diesel through different taxes:

  • Petroleum Development Levy (PDL): Rs78.02 on petrol, Rs77.01 on diesel

  • Climate Support Levy (CSL): Rs 2.25 per litre

  • Customs duty: Rs20–21 per litre

  • Dealer and marketing margins: Rs17 per litre

Fuel Use in Pakistan

Petrol and diesel are the most used fuels in the country, with monthly sales of 700,000 to 800,000 tonnes, while kerosene only sells about 10,000 tonnes.

In the financial year 2024, the government collected Rs1.161 trillion from petroleum levies and plans to raise it to Rs1.470 trillion in 2025.
